Hiking Around Kathmandu
While the trekking regions towards himalayas has been hugely explored by tourists, hiking around Kathmandu is very less known to the foreign tourists. The main reason of this is, trekking agency don’t make much money by promoting these destinations.Another reason is Nepalese people don’t really consider hiking as adventure or recreation for that matter. But for a tourists who drop in to Kathmandu for a few days or who can’t do long treks there are equally beautiful, adventurous destinations for 1 day hiking around Kathmandu.

Kathmandu is very well placed in the middle of hills in its all sides. And that makes these mountains very special for the hikers. I’ve personally been to at least 10 of these small hills around Kathmandu and almost all of them can be completed in a day. You get to see almost same thing you would see in one of the more popular Himalayan trekking trips on this one too. You wouldn’t get to see the Himalayas from close but for a 1 day hiking, its all worth it. There are villages with old houses, there are trails, there are ancient temples and jungles and everything. On a clear day almost all these hills point you towards a huge city that is Kathmandu. From some of the locations, you can actually see planes flies below you.
Below are some of theose areas:
Tinpiple – Tarakeshwor – Balaju
BudhanilKantha – Shivapuri – Sundarijal
Swayambhu – Jamacho – Balaju
Lubhu – Lakuribhanjyang
Tikabhairab – Dalchowki
Sankhu – Nagarkot
These hiking routes however might not be very good for the tourists basically because of the routes etc. However, there is a group called Nature Lovers Group who conduct group hiking on last saturdays of every month. You can get notified about their hiking by joining their facebook group.
